2001 Canadian Geoscience Council Census of Canadian Geoscientists

Why a Census?

For too long now, no one knew how many geoscientists work and live in Canada.

We knew little of the demographics of geoscientists. We didn’t know what sectors of the economy employ geoscientists, how many and where. We didn’t know how the remuneration of geoscientists compares with other professionals. There were a lot of facts that could be gathered for the benefit of all geoscientists.

Once counted, we could begin to have more control over our collective professional careers, and form a unified group that can affect geoscience policy decisions for the good of Canadians and Canada.
